Going to buy a Cherokee, particular trouble spots?

So I'm going to be buying a 1999 - 2001 Jeep Cherokee in the very near future. Are there any particular trouble spots i should pay extra attention to outside of the normal stuff? I've got a line on two particular ones, both 2000s. one with 79k one with 95k. The one with 79k is cheaper (not a dealer, where the other one is) so I'm focusing on that one, But they are both 2000's so everything applies to both... I'm thinking of particular rust spots, or joints that tend to go out earlier, stuff like that. I'm going to check out the 79k tomorrow.

on the older ones the floors and rockers would rust out. Seeing as that one is relatively new still you probably wont have to worry about that. Aside from that, mine was rock solid.

likely going to be straight six with automatic. next to impossible to find one with a 5 speed in decent condition, let alone in the condition i want, trust me, i've looked. I've only seen 4 or 5 since i started looking a couple months ago, and only one of them was in the condition i want, but it had 165k and the guy wanted like 7 grand.

edit: plus it was yellow. a yellow car is no good for my line of work. its a good way to get noticed, and getting noticed can mean very very bad things for me.

no v8, i'm getting a cherokee classic, not the grand cherokee.

my 99 grand cherokee's oil pan rusted out and started leaking around 95k, had to be replaced, so definitely give it a good once over for rust

aside from that nothing major really

IIRC 97-99 are the same
and 2000-2001 are the same

former has plus & wires while the later has coil packs

great vehicles though, and one of my favorite all time vehicles. I keep trying to talk the wife into one

The I-6's Toyota-made tranny is solid, just run a good Dex-III or Toyota T-IV fluid in it and you'll be fine.

I'd be more worried about rust, chassis issues and the interior falling apart on those. Cherokees seem to be pretty good SUVs - Grand Cherokees tend to have more issues...

i would never buy a jeep if it didn't have the 4.0.
check the u-joints for play, and the exhaust manifold for leaks/cracks around #6 cylinder

my cherokee had a slipping trans and rotten rockers. otherwise it literally was a tank. 7 main bearing I6 tractor motor lasted forever.
