ITT - Wicked AWD launches!!!

For those of you who haven't enjoyed a 1.6 second 60' time while getting shot out of the barrel of an AWD cannon, it's pretty awesome.

Post up videos or pictures of AWD cars launching hard.

I'll start out with my own car...

Some pics from my friend's 650+ hp S4. It ran 11's @ 132+ mph with serious traction problems (car wasn't set up for the strip at all)...

need to get a video of the 5500RPM 2-step in my friend's STi, we just put new bushings and shit in it so it doesn't hit the diff on the subframe when he launches, and it's wicked

That wagon S4 is absurd, he waited for someone to pass before launching did you see that?

Im also curious what they do to these cars drive trains to make them stand up to this much power. I know the Nissan Skyline Attessa is infamous but what about everything else.

the same thing they do to any drivetrain to make it withstand those forces?
stronger axles, stronger gears, heavier duty clutches, etc etc

In the subaru world, if you have a 5 speed you have to get a $3000+ gearset for it, and those still can break gears. The 6-speed is regarded as more or less indestructible, with many high power cars running them and not having problems. Repeated hard launches have been known to snap axles and driveshafts, though. You can get stronger ones, but normally people just replace them.

The fun is when you convert the cars to RWD. You break the rear diff, then you break your rear axles, then you break the stepper gears in the transmission.

"Getting shot out of a cannon" = 1.6s 60ft?

Okay. Cool. Been there in my old vette.

On the other hand after watching some of these videos I think I can smell clutch burning all the way over here.

What sort of mods/tires/suspension did you have to be able to pull off a 1.6 in a RWD car? Last time at the track, an easy launch on my STi, all season tires, stock suspension, all I had was a tune and an exhaust and I did a 1.68 60'

Here's mine:

My fellow car club member yells "cannot launch for his life" and he's right, I was cheating and using launch control While deshaking the video though, I had the audio/video sync off, maybe i'll fix it one day

STi's can do it pretty much bone stock day and night, our 6 speed and drivetrain is more or less built pretty strong. The 5 speed in the WRX and the LGT can't really do that though

A buddy of mine has an Evo IX, he's on his second transfer case. I've been told (though I don't have any firsthand experience) that the transfer case and the 6 speed in the Evo is the weak link.

IIRC it's a GT35R with AEM EMS

I have a stock bugeye WRX and just started driving stick (I'm 17). Does the clutch engage at 4000 RPM when you guys say "launching at 4000 RPM"?
