Help, blue streaks on my monitor!

This has happened before, but it went away for some reason. Now it's come back and is really fucking with me.

There are faint blue streaks running from top to bottom on my screen, about 3mm apart evenly spaced all the way across. I'm running windows xp with an old Nvidia Geforce TI 4200 graphics card. All the drivers are up to date.

Also when I go to play a movie it takes like 45 seconds to a minute to start up and is completely shaded in alternating faint blue pixels.

Can anyone help me? It's not my monitor as I've hooked it up to another computer and it works fine. Also like I said before I had this problem briefly a few months ago and for whatever reason it resolved itself.

Thanks! This is driving me batshit insane.

Edit: Also when I view web pages and scroll down it seems to wash out the majority of the page in faint blue pixels. Very annoying. When I scroll back up it clears them for the most part, but they come back as soon as I scroll down.

If the monitor works fine on another system, then the video card is tits up.

go buy some generic $50 card if you don't play games. Should solve the problem.

The problem is I don't have any money right now to buy a new card.

Like I said before, it happened a while ago but went away. Now it came back within the last day or so.

I'm looking for the cause as to why this is happening, not just " go buy a new card".

Try taking out the card, if you have some canned air spray it off, use some alcohol and clean the contacts. Might not work, but i've found in the past that with some intermittent problems simply futzing with things can get it to go away.

but do yourself a favor and get a new card when you get a chance.

Start by finding out if it's the monitor or the card first, before you go replacing anything. ytzombie had the right of it, try the monitor on another system.

If you read the OP he tried the monitor on a different computer and it works fine

its obviously your video card. And replacing it will fix it.

The cause is your video card is dying. Go buy a new card. I find it hard to believe you can't muster together $50. If not, how the FUCK do you pay bills? I'm poor as shit and I have $500 just sitting around.

I was looking for a solution, not to be ragged on for not having extra money to spend on a computer that's fucking 5 years old.

I want to know WHY this is happening.

its happening because the video card has taken a shit. It needs to be replaced. End of story.

exactly, it's 5 years old. This stuff does not last forever unfortunately. Stuff breaks, it happens. Happened to be with my 3 year old computer, video card and PCI-e slot died a couple weeks ago. Why it happened? beats me. But it did happen, i had no say in it.

it happens, why could i run my video card in that slot and only that video card without drivers and be fine and when i put any other video card in that slot i could not even load into safe mode?

you could spend the next 5 years trying to figure it out.

OR, you could spend $50 and fix it now and move on because the why doesn't matter.
