How long does beer last?

So I went a little crazy and bought a lot of beer. Five 6-packs, yea yea, to me that's a lot.

I love beer, and recently cut down to two bottles a week, maaaaaybe 3. I noticed I was gaining a little weight drinking a bottle every day of the week. So now I have a problem. I am afraid of the beer going bad. Its really good beer and id hate for it to spoil.

None of it is bottle matured, and based on how beer is bottled I doubt its possible but im paranoid.

Question is. Can beer spoil?

Yes. Some beers(Like Bud and Bud Light) can last over a year, but for the most part, you've only got a couple months.

It will most likely taste nasty after a few months. Either return some or increase your intake

90 days for the best "taste" refrigerated, is the general rule of thumb we used at the liquor store.. but.. with cheaper beer that doesnt really matter.

Also, heat/cold cycles seem to affect the taste.. so keep it cold from start.. or pick it up warm and refrigerate it before drinking

Invite some friends over for a party. Tell 'em to bring some food and you'll provide the beer.

I didnt know heat/cold cycle could affect the taste. I should have kept it refrigerated from the start then since I bought it from a fridge.

What about storing it outside the fridge, what is the best taste limit?

Is Sierra Nevada, Long Trail, and Dog Fish Head considered cheap beer?

If I drink 3 bottles a week, that will consume all the beer in 90 days if I drink it all by myself.

Actually, that's not necessarily true. It depends on how it's stored and what kind of beer it is.

Keep the bottles in a cool, dark place and out of direct sunlight. As long as they're sealed, they should be good for quite a while.

I make my own beer, and I drink it only slightly faster than Lurker does. By the time I get to the last bottle of a batch of 30, it's usually just barely peaked.

The best way to keep good strong beer, well, good is to cellar it around 50-55F (or just stick it in the fridge if you don't want to wait a year or two to drink it). A good article on the subject is: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/101/store
As for your other question: yes, maybe and no. Drink the Sierra Nevada first and the Dog Fish Head last.

One heat cycle will not a bad beer make. Beer stored in a dark cool steady climate should last for plenty long enough for you to drink it. If you buy a nice Belgian or other bottle conditioned ale it can age for years.

odd
I make it rain on them hoes.

I don't know about that. Beer changes taste after 30 days bottled. Sierra Nevada is garbage so who knows.

If you think I am full of shit. get a couple of growlers from your favorite joint. Drink one during the week and let the other set for a month. tastes way different.

This, beer can be aged. Just have to store it right. Light is by far the largest issue and many stores(even the good ones) won't store it properly due to ignorance and wanting to show it off. Heat is a problem too but you have to have a beer get really hot in order to make it degrade. Main thing is to keep it in the dark. 1/4 microbrews I get is skunked, and I buy a ton of beer. This is coming from multiple stores in my area, keep this in mind when you try a beer for the first time.
